Mikey explains that knitting with a thin fluffy yarn can give the fuzzy look to your socks or stockings, but it requires you to use at least three yarn strands to create a sufficiently thick material to work with.

Thin Fluffy Yarn Knitting Tip So we’re working on a Christmas stocking and this time I need to change the colors and I’m looking to do a pink purple silver and you kind of soft a theme for this year’s Christmas so there’s my stocking. I’m really zoomed in because I want everybody to take a look at what’s happening here. As I’ve chosen a material that you can see hopefully you can see it’s kind of fluffy. It’s kind of got fibers coming off and it’s going to give the stocking a really fluffy look at the top other than just being like right Christmas kind of fluffy. So what we want to do is that we look at the string and you see what the actual loom knitting. We put two strings together but when you put these two together it’s not enough thickness. It is still going to be loosey-goosey looking. So what I’m going to be doing today is that I’m going to be adding a second dairy string of the same fluffy material to create that same effect. So what we’re going to do let’s wrap our loom up and get it started. So we’re just going to treat all three strings. You don’t have to be in any order in your hand just put them together and cause it to do a slip knot. So how you do a slip knot, just wrap it around your finger twice the back over the front and now you’re going to pick up the back section and push up. So kind of looks like a mess at this point, this is the whole point of doing it because really what I’m looking for is the effect of the actual fluffiness. So what I’m going to do is like I’m going to rotate my particular loom so that the knob is at the top. And what we’re going to do is because I’m left handed I break hand it I’m going to put it to the left. Hopefully you can see that and I’m going to put it to the left pack. So just pulling it snug, not too tight and just let to dangle or fall in the middle. So what we want to do is now just grabbing the strings. We’re going to start wrapping counterclockwise so wrap up into the under side and out to bring around that bag and back in and what we want to do is continue to do that all the way around. So this is called casting on. Now some people use that. It’s called the anchor that’s on the top. I call it a knob but it’s actually anchor and some people use that as a way to anchor in but I was like doing that slip knot. I think that works stays and more intact better. So we’re actually using three strings simultaneously at one time and obviously I want to do that because I want to create the effect of being really fluffy and unfortunately I should have chosen I didn’t like to can up in the package at warm at itself this is what I have so this is how I’m compensated for the thickness. So we’re all the away around and what we’ll need to do is just shift down per half way. Don’t go to the knots and push it all the way to the bottom or you can just take the inside just using your fingers to push it about halfway and you notice I’ve had to let go of this. You don’t want like for that because it’s not fastened and so if you let go we’re going to lose it just like so. So let’s continue to wrap I’m going to show it and the three came of so now what we’re going to do again is just working counterclockwise because I’m left handed or right handed is that just coming in and wrapping it identically the same way. So with all these fibers looking all fluffy it kind of looks like a chaotic mess but really it’s so well organized because if you look at it from the outside you’ll see that it’s still very much separated to. You can still tell which is which and because it’s just going on together like there’s no order. like it’s just randomly going to be jumping around in your hand in where the purple regular color will be and really the purple regular color is just helping to make the purple of this material really stand out more. So now I’m at the end and what we need to do is then flip up the bottom so this is the same one here so turning it over just grabbing your needle and flipping it over. Now working in that counterclockwise position we’re now going to just take them up and the first one is always hard. The next are all easy. So this is considered round number one. This will be the casting on round which is considered round number one and so that’s how you get started on this project. So what we’re going to do is 30 of these rounds and then we’re going to bind it up like a brim of the hat and then we’re going to do eight inches long. I’m going to use regular pink wall for that. I’m going to do the heel in the purple only so without the fluff and I’m going to do the edge of the actual sock in the purple as well. So it will be a very cool pink purple and fluffy Christmas as per what we have planned.
