The WIN Show with Interior Re-Designer Angela Ingo Paula Fellingham: Welcome to the WIN show. We’re so glad you joined us. I’m Paula Fellingham, CEO of the Women’s Information Network, TheWINOnline.com with the online home for all women of all ages, a community of women helping women live joyful lives, filled with passion and purpose. Our hosts, are Lauralee Christensen, Executive Vice President of the WIN, Suzanne Peterson talented nurse and mother of four, Kim Coles she’s an actress, she’s a comedian, she’s an author and a host. Our guest today is Angela Ingo, interior re-designer and design coach. She’ll teach us how to transform our homes in beautiful cozy places without the huge expense. You're going to learn how to transform your home by simply using items you already have combined with a few simple principles of design. I so need those. Lauralee Christensen: I was so excited when I heard you were coming. I need some help with something. I’m filling a new house and I’ve got a lot of furniture in there but it doesn’t feel cozy. What do I do to just bring that feeling of lived in, comfort and coziness? Angela Ingo: I can share with you three simple things. Lauralee Christensen: Good Angela Ingo: If you are to take — I know all of us have lamps in our house, right? Dr. Paula Fellingham: Right, it’s good Angela Ingo: The lighting is the first thing. But how many of us turn those lights on? Lauralee Christensen: And then it’s usually the last thing you're going to do. Angela Ingo: You use a lamp when you feel like you need to sit down or read a book. Kim Coles: Yeah. Paula Fellingham: That’s right. Angela Ingo: But if you turn that lamp on, just simply flip the switch, your room will feel cozy immediately. Kim Coles: Okay. Angela Ingo: So that’s going to help. That’s one thing. If you want to add another thing, add fabric. Kim Coles: Oh. Angela Ingo: Now the way you add a fabric to your room, you can take toss pillows, you can take a throw blanket, you can take a rug. Paula Fellingham: Okay. Angela Ingo: Even curtain, but as you do that, it layers that one layer on another and it makes the room feel like you wanted to be there. Suzanne Peterson: I love that idea. Paula Fellingham: Good, good. Angela Ingo: Natural element, natural element. Okay, what does that mean? Paula Fellingham: Natural, something in nature? Angela Ingo: Something in nature, you can simply take a beautiful vase, put some fresh flowers in it. You could take a pot and put some stick that you trimmed from your backyard. Put it right in the that’s much— Lauralee Christensen: I love it! Paula Fellingham: That’s a good idea. Suzanne Peterson: That kind that’s life. Paula Fellingham: Yeah. Angela Ingo: A bowl of apple on the counter. Paula Fellingham: Look how simple and perfect. Angela Ingo: A little bit of green and creamy. Paula Fellingham: Natural. Kim Coles: Now you're telling us that we have to go out and do a lot of shopping and buy all these things? I think they know. Angela Ingo: I had to tell you. My whole mission is to help women recognize, you have things on your own home already that you can use. And if you will take these simple design principles that I’m sharing with you, you can make it feel wonderful with what you have already. I mean you may choose a lamp for your boy’s room to just try in the front room, just to try it. Paula Fellingham: Yeah. Angela Ingo: It doesn’t have to mean you’re going to keep it there. It just means you put it there, you turn on and you now have that feeling. So when you’re ready to go shopping, you know light what to get and where to put it. Paula Fellingham: Whoa! That’s kind of sound like we’re going to be able to shop at home. Angela Ingo: Yeah. It’s actually like shopping at home. Is that fantastic? It doesn’t cost anything. You have it all right there. Kim Coles: Okay. We love that. Paula Fellingham: I love that. Angela Ingo: It’s awesome! Suzanne Peterson: Angela I’m wondering, I — mean all of our — well, I turned white right now and I — it has just started for me. I’m wondering how do I go about choosing colors for my— Angela Ingo: I have so many women that ask me this how to decide. People think, “I have to go to the paint store and pick my little chip and determine how am I going to do it.” Paula Fellingham: That’s what I think. Lauralee Christensen: But even when you pick it, you get a home for anyone. It doesn’t look anything like the chip. Suzanne Peterson: And it’s permanent, I mean you can repaint it but that’s a lot of work. Paula Fellingham: So how do you decide? Angela Ingo: The very first thing you want to do is you want to find it an inspiration piece. It maybe a toss pillow, it maybe a piece of art, it maybe a rug. But as you find that inspiration piece, you pick three colors out of that inspiration piece that you want to have throughout room. Now, you can go from that inspiration piece to choose what little accent you want to have throughout the room Paula Fellingham: That’s will I do. Angela Ingo: So, choose an inspiration piece. That’s your first thing to help you then decide what colors — can you pull the colors from that piece? Suzanne Peterson: Do you typically go bold or more neutral with your paint colors? Angela Ingo: Well, that’s all depends upon your style. If you’re more of a bold person and you want to try some big colors, go for it. If all about having your style. Your home, it’s your space you want to be comfortable and still at home there. Suzanne Peterson: I love that. Paula Fellingham: I have a question. So what can I put on a table that will make it night beautiful? We’re doing cozy here Angela Ingo: Okay. Often there’s a lot of us that have an entry table and you don’t quite know, “Oh, what I’m going to put on this?” Lightning, Put a lamp. Suzanne Peterson: That’s the lighting. Paula Fellingham: Fabric. Angela Ingo: Put a lamp and then you want to add a natural element. Paula Fellingham: Okay. There we go. Angela Ingo: And the other — last thing you would put is some personal item. It could be a friend’s photo. It could be a little statue that you’ve picked up on one of your travels. It could be a candle and you want them to be in different height, three different height. Suzanne Peterson: Level. Angela Ingo: So easy, you take three simple things, lightning, a personal item, and something up nature. Paula Fellingham: Natural element. Angela Ingo: A natural element. Lauralee Christensen: You try to stay in odd numbers. Is that kind of important on this? Angela Ingo: Odd numbers is much more pleasing to your eye. Lauralee Christensen: Okay. Kim Coles: We've got a Feng Shui thing. You know, everybody talks about Feng Shui now. You're not even dealing with it here or not? Angela Ingo: You know, I’m not going there. Kim Coles: Okay. Angela Ingo: I’m not going to — it’s trade thing. I don’t want to. It usually be — Kim Coles: You have to learn. Angela Ingo: I don’t want you to put things here. You can take these things that you have around already and create this cozy feeling. Kim Coles: Okay. Suzanne Peterson: And I love how you said to put personal item right on your entry way table because that speaks to who we are. So when people come in, they are already have a feeling of who we are and what we’re about. I love that. Angela Ingo: And you can do this on other tables you have throughout your home, end tables, night stand, that kind of thing, same principle. Paula Fellingham: So does all of our furniture have to match? Tell me that? Angela Ingo: I said not. Paula Fellingham: Say no. Angela Ingo: You do not have to have matching furniture. In fact, if you look in beautiful home magazine, you rarely see matching furniture. It’s so much more interesting and so much nicer for you to choose things that are in your home, things that are you. Maybe you have a chair for your grandmother and you want to incorporate that was something you sit — and you have this couch that you love so you tie those things together. You don’t have to have the same matching frames or your table don’t all have match, you can have— Paula Fellingham: You can have old school. Lauralee Christensen: It reminds me of something I read of years ago that if you always choose things that you love, eventually, it all goes together because you chose it. Suzanne Peterson: You’re the unifying factor. Angela Ingo: You are creating— Paula Fellingham: I mean in so many years, I tried to make everything match and that — things like, “This is good.” Kim Coles: It makes them more personal. Angela Ingo: Oh, it makes it much more of who you are. Paula Fellingham: Yeah. Angela Ingo: Your home, you want things in your home that you love. Paula Fellingham: I can see that. Angela Ingo: Things that are — there is things that are useful and things that you want. Paula Fellingham: Yeah. And then we’re going to get that cozy feeling. Kim Coles: Speaking of cozy, you have a show on The WIN don’t you? “The Imaging Cozy Show”? Angela Ingo: Yes. Kim Coles: So you’re going to be giving us different kinds of tips all the time. Angela Ingo: Yes. Lauralee Christensen: Fabulous. Angela Ingo: And I’m going to be having very simple — we’re talking simple — Kim Coles: Okay. Angela Ingo: Simple before and after photos. You can go to my blog. It has the before and after photos. It will teach you how to simply do this. It’s not a big deal. This is something each of you can do. Suzanne Peterson: Step by step? Angela Ingo: Step by step. Lauralee Christensen: Just like today, a little bite. Angela Ingo: Yeah. A little, little — Lauralee Christensen: That’s very durable. Angela Ingo: And that won’t cost you anything. Paula Fellingham: We've had had so much fun. It is time to close. Thanks for joining us. So this is fabulous. We really appreciate it.
