Spotting Fake Designer Clothes Audra Lowe: From jeans to jewelry, the designer knock-up business is booming and Rhiannon learns how to spot a fake. Rhiannon Ally: We’ve all seen those Gucci or Coach bags and often times they look just as good as the real thing or almost. But here to show us how to spot a fake and why we shouldn’t be buying fakes in the first place, here’s our lifestyle expert Mar Jennings. Mar Jennings: You know I don’t like fake people, fake bags, and fake jewelry. It’s just a bad deal and you shouldn’t get involved in that and it’s a growing business $250 billion business just in the U.S. alone. That’s too much and a lot like the drug war, the only way it will end if we had consumers just not the buy the stuff. Rhiannon Ally: What’s Jim Paredi didn’t show us is how to tell a fake. Mar Jennings: Okay, there’s a fake here. There is a fake watch. One of them is a Rolex and one of them is a Brightling. Which one is a fake? Rhiannon Ally: I say this one. The Brightling is the fake one. Mar Jennings: Actually, that’s the real one. This Rolex although in a real box, okay, it is a fake. Several hundred dollars, $250.00 and a couple months later, it’s already broken. Okay, you deserve better into buying something that is a fake. I’m sorry. Although it comes with all the right details, it’s not the real McCoy. When you’re spending $250.00 for Rolex, light bolt, it’s not real. Rhiannon Ally: Okay, jeans are next. Mar Jennings: Okay, jeans! If someone invited you to their home for a designer party – handbags, jeans, accessories, you’ll find this is not a copular party. These are fake. Don’t support it. I’m sorry. Even if you really want it and you’ve been wanting them for a while, just don’t support that stuff. Rhiannon Ally: Which one of the fake? Mar Jennings: The fake one? Right here. Rhiannon Ally: No, I was going to guess the others. Mar Jennings: These are the fake. The Versace are the real McCoy. This came from my closet and this came from actually someone that went to party and they bought them. Rhiannon Ally: Okay, next looking at these bags. These are popular ones. Mar Jennings: Okay. Briefcases. Okay, they are very popular. You see them no matter where you go. You can be in L.A. or New York regardless where you go there ending up everywhere and this was $200.00 okay? And this is the fake. This is the real Louis Vuitton bag. The problem with the fakes is that if you have a prom, you have no records. You are going to throw it out and let’s face it. The moment it starts scarring, you got to throw it out. I rather have you save that money and buy a quality item that you can afford because in the long run, it’s the right use of your dollars. Rhiannon Ally: A lot of people at home are asking why not save hundreds or maybe thousands of dollars and just go for a fake. No one’s going to know. Mar Jennings: The thing about is that you will know and you deserve it better for you and better certainly for the economy and to not support people that are supporting making the face. In the long run, you’re trying to put one over and not only on yourself but those people around you and let’s face it. You know what, in the long run, it doesn’t do you any justice. Save money the old-fashioned way. Save for what you really want. It will be well-worth. Rhiannon Ally: Also, buyers beware. You can really be getting ripped off. Our last one DVD can completely close. Wrapped up… Mar Jennings: You open it up and there was actually nothing inside and that happens a lot and listen you can find online resources that are great. They scored very high, customer service standards are wonderful but always look at the price and always realize if the deal is too good, it’s too good. Rhiannon Ally: Yes, whether it’s online or if you had a store, definitely would be worse. It’s better off to just maybe buy a less prestigious brand. Mar Jennings: Absolutely, you know what, don’t wear your wealth. Don’t wear your wealth. Rhiannon Ally: Thank you so much Mar. Great tips! Now, we finally know how to spot a fake.
