Amy Salinger: Hello! and welcome to this episode of Sass n Style with your host Amy Salinger. You have asked for it, you've wanted it, you've needed it and of course I provide over 40 and fabulous. Obviously all of my models have been my friends which means what they are all around late 20s, 30s but I have recruited in fact she asked to be on Sass n Style because everybody wants to be on Sass n Style, you already know that. So today we are going to do fabulous looks for over 40 from the workplace to a casual weekend outfit to a dinner date, because you better still be going on dinner dates and having that man take you out. So today we are going to do all of these fabulous looks on our fabulous woman. Let's go and check it out. So we are here with our over 40 and fabulous friend Cathy. Thank you so much for being here. Cathy: And thanks for having me. Amy Salinger: Of course, today first up we are going to be talking about her business on summer. Now Cathy has a little bit of flexibility at work, what you do for living? Cathy: I am speech pathologist and based in a school. Amy Salinger: Okay, so Cathy works in a high school, so the truth is she can be a little bit more casual but we still want her to look like an authority figure, as you should at any job that you have. You want to look completely appropriate but only if you looking the back. First thing is first the basic black pencil I have talked about it before it's one of the most important stable items of wardrobe, no matter who you are, no matter where you work, you can funk it up you can dress it down, you can do whatever you want with that. So this being a stable item I work around it. I started by making it more casual with the silver flats. As I've noted before a metallic shoe is a great neutral even if it just for a back, just then metallic colors. Usually a little bit more of a pop then a brown or a black. In the belly flat keeps it kind of fun and easy and assessable, and as we pan up I've done the pop of red color in the middle, truth is this shirt actually it's meant to be untucked with the belt of this same material. It was a looking a little bit bulky, when we tucked it in, and we put on something that was a little brighter to the middle we were synching her waist and giving her that great shape by adding this Lenin material shirt we made it a little bit more casual even though she still just have an appropriate and little silver loop as the pop, again it's casual if I was going some place more professional I would probably throw in a diamond, but over all do you feel comfortable in this? Cathy: Yes I do. Amy Salinger: And she can go to work and look completely fabulous. Second outfit number two, and this is obviously her casual outfit. Now a lot of times when people have troubled with what I go with my client that are over forty years. I want to look trendy, I want to look fun, but I want to look age appropriate. I am the biggest fan of age appropriate, I know they are cooler it's such an unfortunate ladies, it down or not you don't need to be wearing a short, like a dress. Even a 16 year old child would be wearing a short like dress. Stop the magnets so really appropriately we have lovely casual outfit on here on Cathy a lighter jean which fits wow! The truth is nobody needs a mom jean you know what I am talking about, high-waist pockets are up here, they don't look good on anybody, so you don't need to buy them, where did you get these jeans? Cathy: At the Gap. Amy Salinger: A totally reasonable place it's a very economic store shop out at specifically for jeans, they obviously fit her very well. You should always body conscious no matter what age you are, that doesn't mean skin tight, it mean body skimy that's important to know. Also we have on the big bold, let me show this up, the big bold ring. This is kind of the proper trend that she is getting coming into her outfit. Is this something you would normally wear? Cathy: No. Amy Salinger: Do you feel comfortable wearing it? Cathy: Yes it's fine. Amy Salinger: It sounds like that one fun bobble, she is not overdone and has tons of accessories. She has one fun keys that brings her into the year 2009 with the trendy pop. And then of course we have very simply the lace white tying top from American Eagle, I love that it's layered down a little bit lower and a little higher so the lace is adding a bit of funk. If you are uncomfortable showing your arms you can put on the short sleeve shirt, it gives the same exact effect but it's covering of what you might be uncomfortable with. A simple wrap vest for a pop of color and if we go down, it's always important to add a little bit of fun no matter what age you are. This is simple white sandal. I love the gold detail coming up the front, have fun between your shoes the ring, a little gold earring up top and she is good to go. So the for the final outfit we have the dinner date outfit because don't you agree that all women for their entire life should be getting taken out on dates. Cathy: Yes. Amy Salinger: Yes and be boss of the hour still. Cathy: Of course. Amy Salinger: Of course, and dinner and dessert, appetizers included and maybe some dancing afterwards. Cathy: Maybe. Amy Salinger: But I suggested to her taking this dress which is a little bit more casual, little bit more fun if you are very simple living just add a black pump and maybe a colored clutch you can up the anti of a simple dress and you can think about that with most of your dresses, like I explained in a cocktail episode from night to today. First thing is first you mention your husband is a little bit shorter than you correct. Okay so you know the truth is ladies as we have pan down here, you don't necessarily need to be wearing a pair of high heels in order to be fancy and fabulous. A pair of flat is just fine and the truth is it's summer time so it's little bit warmer throw on a sandal flip flop is little too casual. If you have a strap around the back of your ankle you are upping the anti of the look and making a little bit more fancy and I love that we get the pop up color, at the bottom of this look. You pan out it's all black and white at the top and we have added a little bit of funk on the hand, because when the dress is this busy, you don't want to overwhelm it too much. You don't want to compete with the outfit. But you definitely want to add on. So here we did a white clutch the one I showed in the bag episode as you can see I am reusing things through that episode, the funky little tassel brings the funkiness of the print we layered on a few bracelets. Again there is kind of ethnic feel to this bangle same as the dress. Ah! We are thinking here and then of course pan up and we have simple gold hoop on the top. It's a little bit thicker and bolder to really pop through her hair so you can really see it, from head to tail do you feel ready for your dinner date? Cathy: Yes. Amy Salinger: You like your husband now you are going out.
