Red Ribbon Express Initiative in India Elizabeth Kiem: You're watching UNICEF Television. On World AIDS Day India’s 70,000 wild railway networks welcomed a new locomotive the Red Ribbon Express, which will travel to 50,000 villages in the coming year to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS. Sonia Gandhi: This is a bold initiative, a bold experiment to reach out to millions of people living in small towns and villages that do not have access to appropriate information or knowledge about HIV/AIDS. Elizabeth Kiem: To launch the initiative, Sonia Gandhi was joined by government officials and partners including UNICEF, which has contributed $1 million to the project. Gianni Murzi: This is a crucial pain because children need the information and knowledge to protect themselves, women as well to protect themselves from HIV/AIDS. So this in fact that the train which is the main staple of Indian life, millions of people takes a train is that something extremely good going around the country around the stations to meet the view. Elizabeth Kiem: The unusual train houses an exhibition center and an auditorium for multimedia presentations. It also carries a fleet of bicycles, which young volunteers will use to fan out from each of the railway stops spreading much needed information through out the country.
