Project Runway Seth Aaron Henderson Interview Rhiannon Ally: Next time your clothes shopping you just might be trying on a Seth Aaron Henderson original. We talked with the Project Runaway winner about his creative style. In case you don't already know Seth Aaron is the winner of season seven Project Runway of lifetime. We caught up with Seth at the Trump Soho Hotel in New York City and ask him when he knew he was destined to be a clothing designer. Seth Aaron Henderson: I figured out an early age that I want to be a designer I physically learned how to sew, I’ve self taught and I learned five years ago so I started five years ago. Rhiannon Ally: Most designers start by sketching out their ideas but Seth has his own method for creating his garment. Seth Aaron Henderson: I'll go into a fabric store and I’ll see the fabrics and say you know when I want to by the color the grim, whatever. And I looked out and I say "That's going to be a suit, that's going to be a dress and then I’ll take it on there. Rhiannon Ally: Seth's personal style is very rock and roll so we wanted to know if music inspires his creativity. Seth Aaron Henderson: For the simple fact that I, when I listen to a song say I'm listening to the Cure, I’m listening you know whatever song, I’m visualizing what the person wearing and what they're doing, who they are too that music. And then I'll translate that into an actual garment. Rhiannon Ally: Seth receives high praise from the judges on the show on his technical skills. He talked about the importance of fit when it comes to clothing. Seth Aaron Henderson: People don't get is the clothes just don't fit. So therefore, they say you know they buy some square box and one size fits all kind of deal and that's just wrong. You know clothes if they fit correctly on your body you would be surprised what you could wear. I’m famous for going into the top label store and I go and I pull a Gucci jacket for example or I’ll turn inside out and look at the outfit together. Rhiannon Ally: With his designed background competing on Project Runway seemed like a natural thing for Seth to do. Seth Aaron Henderson: I really study it. A few years back I said you know this is for me I can be honest and you know I want to be on this and I'm going to win this and I told my wife that. Rhiannon Ally: So when he finally got the chance to be on the show how did he size up his competitors? Seth Aaron Henderson: This is the way I look at during the competition.16 people out of x amount of tryout they made it on, they're all competition. Rhiannon Ally: We wanted to know how Seth felt about Tim Gunn’s mentory. Seth Aaron Henderson: I valued everything all impute. you know it's just wise because we need to wise and we really have to listen too And you know it--they might not everything he says might not totally apply, like the sense to you but the things that do use it. Rhiannon Ally: The judges on Project Runway can be extremely critical did he value the ice it Nina Garcia gave him? Seth Aaron Henderson: She really made a few comments for the whole season to help me grow and it helped me tremendously opening new views, new ideas. Rhiannon Ally: In addition to being designer, Seth is also a family man. He told us how his wife and kids inspired him throughout the competition. Seth Aaron Henderson: Right before I left they said, "Go there you got a purpose. Do your job, do what you’re meant to do. Don't worry about us we're taking care off" so that is really inspires me to be there. You know they made the sacrifice of me leaving; I’d better go there and kick some ass. Rhiannon Ally: And that he did have Seth life changed since the show. Seth Aaron Henderson: Winning Project Runaway has changed my life in every way that you could imagine. It’s just been crazy you know it's been exciting, it's been tiring but at the same time it feels right. Rhiannon Ally: It’s a good thing he's not sick of it because we definitely want to see more from him.
