Jewelry Designer Jennifer Meyer Maguire Talks Family, Fashion and Fame Hi. I’m Jennifer Meyer Maguire and my jewelry line is Jennifer Meyer. I started designing jewelry when I was about six years old with my grandma Edith. I would just sit with her in her kitchen and watched everything that she did. I think I always knew in my heart of hearts that I want to be a designer, but I think I was too insecure to say it. As I got older, I realized that it was important for me to talk about my passion. I went into a couple of girl friends of mine. They were about to go style of Jenny Aniston for the Break-Up. And they said, “Oh, these are great samples, can we go show Jen?” I was like “No, I’ve never shown anyone these.” And they said, “Oh, you never know what she’s going to choose.” Low and behold, I got a call from the Break-Up. We need three of each of this slit necklace, the leaf earrings, the—Break-Up came out and the most beautiful Jennifer Aniston put that leaf on for me. I knew that if I want to start a company, I really had to do everything I could. So, I called everybody I knew until I got in there. I remember the first time seeing my jewelry and thinking, “Oh, my God! They made me a nameplate? That says Jennifer Meyer?” They took a chance on my jewelry and I’m in every bar, I need to cross the country right now. I always really wanted to design a wish bone. And I love the idea of having something that you could always make a wish on. I always remember Thanksgivings and my mom would make these really big, great Turkeys and she would save the wish bone for my sister and I to pull apart and make a wish. I started designing all my good luck charms because who doesn’t want a little bit of luck? I think anything you believe is good luck is good luck. I wear it with my grandmother’s ring that she designed and I like to keep this one on me. I was really lucky and I work for Giorgio Armani and then I worked for Ralph Lauren. Something amazing that I feel like I learned from watching both of them is that if you want to have a successful company and you want people to love your brand then you have to be hands on. I have really stylish friends. So, I’m really lucky that I can get inspiration from them everyday. Aley is sort of as good as it gets when it comes to inspiration. The weather is always amazing. I grew up on the beach surrounded by nature. There’s nothing better than seeing your designs or your jewelry on these amazing people. Some of my favorite stories are literally people that just come out of nowhere and say, “Do you see my leaf? I bought this when I started a new job.” You need to find time to actually design and be creative. I sort of find passion in every little thing that I do with my kids. My daughter now is at the age where she’s loving designing jewelry. She designs the most gorgeous charm necklace and I was like “Okay, thank you Ruby, maybe I’ll do a charm necklace next.” I can’t live without my camera, which I always need to take pictures of my children. I always have a few extra pieces of jewelry in my bag in case I want to add on. I can’t live without baby wipes because I clean my hands with them like cleaning my son’s fishy with them. I clean everything with them. My Dad used to always give us jewelry. So, I always knew that jewelry came from people you love. And my Dad was the first man I fell in love with. So, getting jewelry from him was the best thing in the entire world. I’m Jennifer Meyer and thank you for watching.
