A simple bond of gold or a bond with lots of bling, we tell you how to choose the perfect samples of I do. Michael O’Connor: I think the best way that couples should really look for their wedding bond is first of all they need to do some research. They need to do research on the styles that are right for them and then also the price point that they want to spend, and also they need to understand the metals that they are going to be purchasing because these pieces of jewelry; your wedding bonds are the only pieces of jewelry that you’re going to be wearing every single day for the rest of your life. Wedding bonds have really become a fashion statement in their own right. I think four the most important trends that I’m seeing today are classic trends, modern trends, vintage trend, romantic trends. And it really all depends upon a couples own style and their individual style within that couple as well because when you choose a wedding bond, you’re choosing something that really symbolizes the greatest commitment that you’re going to make and that commitment also and the commitment to the style that you want to wear on your finger. From a style perspective, I don’t feel that you’re engagement ring or your wedding bonds needs to match particularly in style. They need to work together in some ways so if she’s a romantic and you’re a classic, I think that that’s a wonderful combination and my suggestion is to always match the metal type. For example, if you’re using platinum, his ring should also be platinum but more importantly, if you buy a platinum engagement ring, what you want to remember is platinum is one of the most durable metals of all. So if you put it up against a ring that is not platinum, it will wear against it, wear it down eventually. So what you want to do is you want to make sure that the metal of your engagement ring matches the wedding bond as well. I know that some couples think that by buying the best that means buying the most expensive piece that they can get but really a lot of designers today are really being very innovative in the way they create platinum wedding bonds which is of course the best metal that you can get for a wedding bond and so you can actually find a platinum wedding bond almost at every price point. Probably starting for almost as little as $400.00 and going up. I think one of the biggest mistakes that couples make is that they wait too long to purchase their wedding bond. So what couples want to do is they want to think about the wedding bond much earlier in the process because sometimes especially for high end wedding bonds they are going to have to be especially made for the couple, they are going to have to be specially made in the finger size and often couples will want to put it beautifully unique engraving on the inside so couples should really start to think about buying wedding bonds probably about six months out from the wedding, maybe even more so. So a lot of couples are doing really beautifully unique engravings into rings and I think that that’s what makes them special. One of the things that you do want to remember though is that in gold wedding bonds for example, those engravings will wear down over time. I’m sure we’ve all seen that with our grandparents’ wedding rings. When you get a wedding bond in platinum, engravings don’t wear down so they are going to stand the test of time even on the inside of the ring.
