Enzo F. Cesario: Hi! This is Enzo F Cesario with another edition of the Brandsplat Video Report. Today, we’re talking to Petra Wennberg who’s a strategic visual designer. Hi Petra! How are you doing today? Petra Wennberg: Hi, great thanks. Enzo F. Cesario: Petra has designed for sites such as Microsoft, Toshiba, Yahoo and a slew of internet startups. Petra, what are some of the things that you really try drill down when you’re designing a site on the internet? Petra Wennberg: Well, for me I really, it boils down to four key questions. The first one is, who are you as a company? The second is, what do you do? The third one is, why do I care as a consumer? And the fourth one is, how can I get it? And we should be able to do that enticingly by wrapping up both your visual design, with your copyrighting, as well as your structure of the site and navigation. Enzo F. Cesario: That’s kind of a lot of stuff to put together and to make it very clear and concise and I know a lot of companies are trying to put everything on their homepage. For example, you know what are some tips that you can give that can help people understand that that’s not a good idea? Petra Wennberg: Well, especially your homepage is you chance to do the elevator pitch. You have a very short and not a time capture the audience. So, you really need to make sure that you have your business strategy communicated in a clear way that a user can command and kind of grasp from you in just a few seconds. Enzo F. Cesario: So well, you know, in your opinion, what are some web companies, some websites that do that successfully? Petra Wennberg: I think that a site that is doing that well is mint.com, that financial service. They have been able to kind of strip down their message lessons more so you really get the users try to understand how their resources are beneficial and how to sign up. Then other one that I think is doing a good job is lesser known lerb.com that is doing custom made books for users. They are also—they’re showing their product right up on the site and making it very easy for users to come in and sign up and willing to get their own custom made books. Enzo F. Cesario: Great so you know, getting those four things across. You ask yourself who you are as a company, what do you do, why should I care as a consumer, and how do I get your product, your service? Petra Wennberg: Exactly. Enzo F. Cesario: Those are great, four great things to get you started in having a really good piece of communication and a good interface. So thank you Petra. Thanks for being here today. Petra Wennberg: Sure, thank you. Enzo F. Cesario: You're welcome, this is Enzo F. Cesario. Again, thanks for watching and we’ll see you next time.
