Deep-Fried Bagel Sandwich Recipe Passion Legend Isaac Mizrahi is going to be deep-frying a bagel you all. Paula: Are you all in. I’ve got some cream cheese, I’ve got chives, I’ve got some Isaac: Part of this is the cashmere darling, schmear Paula: Schmear. Isaac: This is called schmear in New York. Paula: Oh, Okay. Isaac: Like a bagel with schmear. Paula: Okay you just schmear it on. Isaac: Schmear it on that’s right. Paula: And I’ve got alfalfa sprouts and dealing cucumbers and onions and I’ve got capers but we’re going to deep-fry those next. All right let’s start on these bagels because there is so much like your father who’s in the garment industry. Isaac: That’s right. Paula: You were born in Brooklyn and you learn how to sew as a young man. Isaac: I did one of these big machines in the basement and at some point when I was 11 or something I kind of common dear the basement it was like sort of a studio. So I made close on this basement, when I was 11. And what I must suppose to do now. I suppose to do this. Paula: Now, toss it the flour just rub it around there good and then just slip it into the deep fry. Isaac: I will put in the deep fry already weigh okay I’m so excited. Paula: Okay put it in and there you go. Isaac: This could be delicious. Paula: You know it’s really your basically what we’re making is like a French toast using a bacon. Isaac: That’s right now what is that, that’s an egg wash. Paula: Yes this is eggs and milk but we’re deep frying it. We have deep fried our bagels and now I’m going to fry. Isaac: You’re going to deep fry the tomatoes. Paula: Do you love green fried tomatoes? Isaac: I do. Yes I do. Paula: I do too. Isaac: And that’s just butter milk and — Paula: We salted our tomatoes as it so that it would pull the water out of them so they would get crispy and we run them through a bath of butter milk and now we’re just — Isaac: Pat them in the flour. Paula: Pat them in the flour and we’re going to put him in the deep fry. If you’d hold that — Isaac: Should I hold the — Paula: No just hold that and then hold it all that pat of thing. Isaac: Got to see just want to place them in. Paula: Yeah I’m just going to kind of place them. Isaac: I’ll just going to place them in and then I drop it in. Is it okay, it’s not crowded? Paula: Perfect no. A lot of women have the same problem in shapes that I have and I have had women lots of women come to me and say Paula. Isaac: Oh my God wait a minute, what is this? Paula: Stay in back honey, I’m fixing a deep fry some capers and I could explode. But how good is a deep fried caper? Isaac: Very, very good direction to that and you don’t — Paula: And with bagels, we have to have it. Isaac: We didn’t do anything right you just how long could they take? Paula: Just a second. Isaac: All right. Paula: Pull him up baby. Isaac; Pull him up, we did it. Paula: Yes we so did it. Isaac: We have a nice and crispy. Paula: Yes just put them right there and come on down here and I will put together a sandwich for you. Now, we’ve got cream cheese or a schmear as you say. Isaac: Now, we’re just going to toast in some chives if you would stir that and — Paula: Look at those capers. How beautiful they turned in and you can take it with a second. Isaac: I am shock that you didn’t deep fry the salmon darling and yet something wants to be fresh on the palate right. Paula: We’ve got a cucumber for that. All right now let’s put together your bagel and schmear because some people like much some people don’t like much. Isaac: I like a lot, I have to say I like a lot of cream cheese. Paula: All right we’ll do it the way you would like it, do you want me to get — Isaac: We like a lot of cream cheese darling. Paula: You’re from South Brooklyn. Isaac: I’m from South Brooklyn. Paula: But you know what maybe I’m from South Brooklyn and just didn’t know it. Isaac: I just didn’t know it from a former life. I do love a little red onion. Paula: Purple onion, yes. Isaac: How about a little dough is that too fancy. Paula: No that is not too fancy. Isaac: I like a little dough. Paula: I tell you what that’s too I tell you what let’s do this. Let’s put a little bit so our capers. So our capers will stick to it. That’s right. How about a fried green tomato? Isaac: Okay, all right bite. Paula: Is that wonderful or what? Isaac: It is wonderful, it is delicious, you salted that didn’t you, and you little slide girls. Paula: I did, I did. I salted it the pool, the water, add of it. Isaac: Do I get to eat this first or what? Paula: No this is for you my darling. Isaac: Oh my God no. Paula: Is it good?
